How to Choose the Best Hair Straighteners

How to Choose the Best Hair Straighteners

If you are one of those who have always dreamed of softer, shinier and straighter hair, cosmetic products such as hair straighteners can be a great option to use. These days, matters about beauty as well as health depends completely in your own hands. There are various technologies now available that can make even the kinkiest of hair become straight and radiant. There are various straighteners products in the market to choose from. But just before you do so, make sure you know what to look for the reliable and best hair straightener that works effectively without any negative side effects.

Choosing the best hair straighteners

So, how to to choose for the best one? First, check the brand and the composition of the ingredients used. You should also choose a board, depending on what accessories or additional features it has. For example, there are hair straighteners that come with a comb, and there are those which have a built-in steam function for very unruly curly hair. Lastly, get a hair straighter that lets you control the temperature. Obviously, this is important so you can increase the heat when needed, and or reduce it when it becomes too hot for your hair.

Choosing the best hair straighteners may have something to do with the type of hair you have. For example, if you have unruly, curly hair, you should use a straightener that comes with a built-in comb. This is to give you better results. As the hair is ironed, it has also been smoothed out by the comb. If you have kinky hair, however, hair iron with a comb can irritate your hair strands, thereby making them rough-looking and stiff. If you have slightly wavy hair, you can actually use either of the two types as you wish.

In any case though, you'll find it wise to choose a hair iron that has ceramic plates. This is because ceramic has a very smooth surface that will not irritate hair as it glides through the two places. Ceramic also heats up much faster, usually within 30 seconds, meaning there's no need to wait for the iron to heat up to the right temperature. These are just a few tips on choosing the best hair straighteners. You can check out online reviews to help you further in making that perfect choice.

Different brands and types of hair straighteners

There are many different brands and types of hair straighteners in the market today. As expected, they will all claim to be the best hair straighteners consumers will ever find. But of course, we know that this is nothing but basic advertising. If you really want to know which product is best for you, you need to do some work. Research is the key to finding the best straightener that is just meant for the type of hair you have.

For example, if you have unruly, curly hair, you can get a hair iron that comes with a fine tooth comb so your hair is smoothed out before it glides through the iron plates. If you have kinky hair, however, you'll want to avoid irritating those strands and making them look rougher. So then, you would find a hair iron without the comb a better alternative for you. Ceramic hair straighteners are also best for sensitive hair, since they have a very smooth surface that prevents irritation of hair strands. To find the best straightener for you, consider your hair type before choosing an option.

Why the best hair straighteners are those with ceramic plates

If you're looking for the best hair straighteners, they've got to be those made of ceramic. There are many reasons for this.

1. Ceramic has a very smooth surface, thus preventing hair strands from getting irritated as they glide through the plates.

2. Ceramic has a self-regulating action in terms of temperature, so there's little, if any, risk of burning the hair.

3. This material has the capacity to evenly distribute temperature.

4. It heats faster and crates a negative ion charge that helps to seal in moisture and hair color.
These are the advantages that you will enjoy when you use ceramic hair straighteners. There are other features that you might also find useful, such as a built-in comb which works great for unruly, curly hair.

Checking out online reviews is a good way to know which products have been impressing a greater number of people. These reviews will also help educate you further on how these gadgets can help you achieve straighter, smoother hair.

The use of best hair straightener is very common to women of today especially those who are keeping a very fashionable lifestyle. If you are one of those who women who wants to get the best hair straightener products, you need to make sure first that the product that you buy suits your hair type and has no bad effects on the hair as well as with your scalp and skin. One of the best ways to determine which product to buy is through hair straightener reviews.

7 Things to Look for When Choosing Nutritional Supplements and Skin Care Products

7 Things to Look for When Choosing Nutritional Supplements and Skin Care Products

Nutritional supplements taken simultaneously with the right skin care products are important for truly beautiful, young-looking skin. However, what ones should you purchase? You would probably agree that when it comes to both of these products, choice is definitely not an issue! With so many different kinds available, how can a consumer decide which kind to choose from? With so many claims made about their benefits, how can you determine what are safe or even effective. When choosing nutritional supplements as well as skin care products, there are a few important things you should keep in mind. Let's take a look.

Nutritional Supplements

• Choose a higher-end line of products.

There is a lot of competition out there when it comes to nutritional supplements. With this in mind, it is important to choose higher-end products. By paying a little more and investing in your health, you are sure to get TOP QUALITY. Stay away from the cheap brands. Here is a little hint: if it is sold at a convenience store, chances are you shouldn't trust it 100%! It must be remembered that top products are not necessarily sold on shelves or even commercialized. Do your research first.

• Make sure they are absorbed by the body.

Not all nutritional supplements are actually beneficial. Did you know that there are a lot of them out there that are NOT even absorbed by the body? Wow! So here you are, spending money on a monthly basis on a product which you think is actually helping your condition, when in reality it's as ineffectual as a placebo! How come? Well because a lot of them do not have the ability to disintegrate properly. As a result, they simply remain un-dissolved in the lower colon and unfortunately, never get used by your body. Pretty shocking! Get informed in order to avoid wasting your money, time and health.

• Find supplements that include antioxidants.

As mentioned in my article entitled, "Awaken Your Inner Beauty", supplements consist of vitamins and minerals to supplement your diet. In addition, antioxidants should-without a doubt-be added to the mix. With vitamins and minerals that are vital for proper bodily functions and antioxidants that protect your body's cells from the damaging effects of free radicals, you are sure to compensate for what your body is missing to allow your skin to look great.

• Stick with supplements that are natural.

Last but not least, make sure you choose nutritional supplements that are 100% natural. Be careful what you put inside of your body. Remember that what goes in will be used for bodily functions and to help your cells fight free radicals. Therefore, if safety and health are one of your concerns (and it should be), you need to stay away from chemicals and manufactured ingredients.

If you are serious about achieving natural glowing skin that looks and feels young and you are ready to incorporate nutritional supplements into your diet, you may ask yourself the following question, "How do I know if the nutritional supplements I chose are of good quality?" Well, it must be remembered that one basic indicator of product quality is disintegration. To find out more about whether or not your current vitamins or supplements actually provide the complete nutritional support your body needs, grab a copy of Lyle MacWilliam's book entitled Comparative Guide to Nutritional Supplements. It compares over 1500 products from different brands throughout the United States and Canada and provides a rating. You will be shocked once you discover that the majority of what is sold (unfortunately) DID NOT obtain a high product rating (5 stars) in terms of possessing health support characteristics. And needless to say, if it doesn't support your health, it doesn't support your skin either.

Let's now take a look at a few key points to remember to make sure you choose the right skin care products.

Skin Care Products

• Buy products that are natural (natural = better quality).
For example, natural skin care products are normally more expensive than the products you find at the supermarket. Why? It all boils down to quality and the ingredients contained in the products. In general, raw ingredients cost more than chemical additives. While cheap brands use chemical additives, more expensive brands use raw ingredients. Natural ingredients found in high quality products require manufacturers to charge more for the basic active ingredients found in the bottles. So, pay a little more for natural products as this helps to guarantee better quality and it is healthier and safer for your skin.

• Find manufacturers who focus on research and development.

It is important to realize that there are two types of manufacturers. On one hand, there are those who pay MILLIONS of dollars yearly, simply to advertise their products as 100% "natural" when in reality, that is not the case. On the other hand, there are those who focus much less on advertising and put the emphasis on research and development instead. What you want to look for is the 2nd kind of manufacturer. In this case, the expenses that have been cut from advertising campaigns and would normally be passed on to the consumer go straight into putting more thoughts in the ingredients instead (ensuring a better product), which comes down to better quality. DO YOUR RESEARCH to find good companies that fall under the 2nd category.

• Pay attention to ingredients.

Although you may not be a specialist when it comes to fully understanding what is contained in the bottle of a product you purchase, you must nonetheless pay attention to ingredients. Here is a little hint: the products that focus on providing maximum benefit instead of making profit should only include ingredients that have been shown to be truly beneficial to the skin. For instance, grape seed extract, a powerful antioxidant, is one of them. Those "gimmick" products packed with fillers are ineffective and can be harmful in the long run to your skin with regular use. Especially if you have sensitive skin, some of the active ingredients in those types of products can trigger irritation, allergies or other skin problems. So you must be careful. Here is one last hint: if all the letters of the alphabet are used simply to spell an ingredient that you can barely pronounce, beware!

To conclude, let's reiterate: it is important to do your research first, in order to find the top skin care products out there. Given these points, it is strongly recommended to dig deeper and find out more about the manufacturers behind each brand name you wish to consider. What is their mission? What is their philosophy? What do they believe in? Are they concerned with your beauty and your health? The answers to these questions can give you a pretty good hint as to the quality associated with a product.

Antioxidants to Feed Your Skin

Antioxidants to Feed Your Skin

"You Are What You Eat"

You have probably heard this saying time and time again. Whether you believe it or not, it is actually true! Whatever you eat is what your skin uses in order to fight against the signs of aging. It is clear that by eating the right foods, you are giving your skin all the nutrients it needs to fight potential damage.

A study conducted by British researchers was published by the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition to demonstrate this idea. The purpose of the study was to determine whether or not people's skin was affected by what they ate. Overall, results showed that food intake does indeed play an important role. For instance, higher intake of "bad fats" (or saturated fats) and processed carbohydrates resulted in more pronounced wrinkles. On the contrary, a diet rich in vitamin C showed to decrease wrinkling later on in life.

By the same token, other studies have also shown that saturated fats, commonly found in junk food, can lead to an increase in sebum production and as a result, cause acne. Given these points, you can't deny that your diet does play a crucial role in your skin's appearance. This clearly suggests that one of the biggest and most common food-related myths which state that food does not affect your skin is simply NOT TRUE.

So, good news! No need to consider going under the knife or even going for Botox as soon as you hit 35 (or earlier for that matter)! Food CAN come to the rescue and help save your skin.
Remember:

Your skin is a reflection of your internal health. If your skin is naturally glowing and smooth, it is normally an indication that you are healthy.

Therefore to ensure good health, you must change your eating habits to include healthier, supportive foods that will contribute to helping you achieve that natural glowing skin, free of fine lines and other unwanted symptoms.

A little earlier it was mentioned that a diet rich in Vitamin C can help reduce wrinkles further down the road. Why is that? It is because Vitamin C is actually an important and very powerful antioxidant. Fortunately, it is not only Vitamin C that has this capability. There are also several other antioxidants that can be found in some of our foods. For instance they can easily be found in fruits, vegetables, nuts, spices/herbs and other vitamins as well. Therefore make sure to incorporate as many of these elements into your diet in order to maximize the benefits. The more of these foods you make a part of your daily eating habits, the more you are helping your skin look its best!

Tell Me - What Age Got to Do With it

Tell Me - What Age Got to Do With it

The topic of "aging" skin has not been left unnoticed over the last several years. You probably agree that an incredible amount of attention has been given to skin care and how to stay looking young.

Let's face it-we are bombarded with beauty information left and right. With the vast amount of information available on how to have beautiful skin and fight premature signs of aging, how could we not be overwhelmed or even confused! Truth be told, it all makes it more difficult to determine what is actually true from what is completely false! Unfortunately, this confusion in our minds has been guiding our feelings and actions and has brought many of us to give in to our temptation to at least, once in our lives, try an anti-aging product. We are so media-saturated on a daily basis, how can we not be tempted?

On Television:

As you are watching TV, you are flicking the channels and you happen to fall on a beauty commercial or infomercial. What do you see? Beautiful young-looking models on which these products are being tried. To convince us even more, sometimes well-known celebrities are chosen as spokeswomen. They make special appearances to represent these anti-aging products, as they sometimes endorse them. Who doesn't like to see beautiful-skinned models or stars on TV using these "miracle" products? Very tempting, wouldn't you say? Before you know it, you're on the phone placing your order!

At the Mall:

How about when you are out shopping? You are passing the front of a boutique where the walls are covered with gorgeous photos or posters of women with firm, flawless skin. And there they are, beauty products, just sitting on the shelves and staring straight into our eyes! It's as if you can practically hear them whispering: "Pssst, try me!" Against your will, you find yourself slowly walking into the store and heading straight towards them. To make matters worse, you have a saleslady putting the products on a pedestal, raising the level of temptation. Next thing you know, you walk out of the shop with a bag full!

In Magazines:

What about in those fun to read girl magazines? Every several pages, there is an anti-aging product being advertised and next to it you see a beautiful, sexy woman, half-dressed, flaunting her glowing youthful-looking skin. It doesn't take long before the name of the product ends up on your shopping list!

You have to remember, it's all about the marketing, and at the end of the day these ads have one purpose in mind-to sell a product by creating a desire (the desire to look young and beautiful). Once consumers are left hungry for that "youthful look" and with the belief that these anti-aging products can give them the look they so badly crave, obviously they will not hesitate to pull out their wallets. After all, with a culture based on beauty and an obsession with looking youthful, wanting to simply try these products, or for some women, being addicted to them, is actually not surprising at all.

One interesting question is, "Why are we actually addicted to these anti-aging products?"

Well, we must admit that the idea of our skin slowly "deteriorating" as we age (as soon as we hit our 30's!) is quite scary, as this deterioration will, of course, affect our appearance. And in this beauty-obsessed era in which we live, any visible signs of aging are simply not welcomed! Because we have believed for so long that age is the issue at hand, we automatically assume that an anti-aging product is the solution; all we need to do to fight the early signs of aging is to apply these products to our skin at a relatively early age (starting in our late twenties) and we are good to go! It is difficult to think otherwise-especially when these products "promise" to reverse the signs of aging.

Here's a little newsflash. You can apply these products all you want but they can only do so much to your appearance. Once and for all, you must get the notion of "AGE" out of your mind as age should not even be part of the equation.

Contrary to what most people believe:

Age has absolutely nothing to do with the appearance of your skin! At the end of the day, IT'S ALL

ABOUT THE CELLS

Of course, genetics and race or color can be nominated for the small role they play, however it is your cells and only your cells who can actually win the Oscar for Best Leading Actor.

For so long we have been blaming age when age is not even at fault. I personally know women who are in their early to mid-thirties whose faces have as many fine lines as wrinkled linen dresses (sad to say but actually true)! I also personally know women who are in their seventies but look like they are in their fifties as their skin is still smooth and firm.

All in all, the appearance of your skin does not depend on your age but rather on the care you give your body and therefore, your cells. So, take action now and stop the signs of aging before they start. Feed your cells with healthy foods, protect them from free radicals by giving them a boost with nutritional antioxidant supplements, and develop good skin care habits by using antioxidant skin care products that are safe and top quality. A healthy lifestyle is what will help you maintain a beautiful, glowing and young-looking appearance.

Awaken Your Inner Beauty

Awaken Your Inner Beauty

The idea of nutritional supplements (or dietary supplements) does not necessarily bring forth a positive response for many women, unfortunately. When the thought is presented to us, for some reason our immediate reaction is to wrinkle our noses! Usually, what comes hand in hand with this facial expression is the following thought: "Supplements??? That's for old people!!" Well guess what? You couldn't be more wrong.

Nutritional supplements have absolutely nothing to do with age. They are applicable to any age group (yes, including the 30's!). As a matter of fact, many "young" thirty something celebrities as well as athletes swear by them. Not everyone chooses to go under the knife or opt for Botox in order for their skin to look good. Some actually prefer a less invasive and more natural route. And, when combined with other natural options such as healthy eating, exercise, a solid skin care regime, etc., natural glowing skin, free of signs of aging, does win in the end. Therefore, if you are truly looking to improve the appearance of your skin, you must make an effort to let go of any negative notions you may have associated to nutritional supplements from your mind. This will allow you to be more open to the idea, thus more willing to at least consider (if not try) including them into your lifestyle. After all, they have the power to bring great benefits to one's health, and consequently one's skin as well. Remember: nothing ventured, nothing gained.

In a previous article, we presented the idea that in order to make up for the lack of essential vitamins and minerals from your daily meals, you can take nutritional antioxidant supplements. If you are unfamiliar with what they are, simply put, they consist of vitamins and minerals to supplement your diet. They are either extracted from a plant or created in a laboratory that puts them into a form that can be taken orally and used by the body. They also contain other essential constituents such as... (drum roll please... )... antioxidants! Interesting...

Let's take a quick look at vitamins and minerals.

Vitamins consist of natural substances found in living organisms such as plants. Since they cannot be produced by the body, they must be obtained from foods, or supplements. As for minerals, they are found in plants as well, that absorb them from the soil. Just like vitamins they must be obtained from foods, or supplements. Altogether, natural, high-quality nutritional antioxidant supplements allow you to satisfy your nutrient deficiency caused by foods that have been depleted of their nutritional value. They also help your cells fight against free radicals which are the primary causes of premature aging. Therefore not only are you supplementing your body with what it needs to stay healthy, you are also putting the odds in your favor to keep your skin looking young and beautiful.

By giving your body and your cells everything they need in order to function properly, you will be able to enhance your appearance by improving your skin tone, elasticity and skin clearness.

As has been noted, it is important to focus on the outside, in other words on what products you apply on your skin. HOWEVER, above all, make sure to not neglect the inside. Give just as much, if not more, attention to what you put IN your body in order to compensate for your nutrient deficiency. That is the key to natural glowing skin: in and out. At the end of the day, if there is a problem on the inside, it will definitely reflect on the outside (on your skin).

Take a tree for example. To get healthy fruits, you must get healthy roots, right? If the roots are unhealthy, so will the fruit be, regardless of the amount of preservatives used. Similarly, your cells are your roots and they must be properly taken care of if you want to stay away from premature signs of aging. For this reason, internal health (regardless of skin color) is the key to external beauty (beautiful young-looking skin). By awakening your inner beauty first, your outer beauty will then shine.

It must be remembered:

People can worry about their skin and their external appearance as much as they want. At the end of the day, it is the inside that TRULY tells the tale.

Further to the notion of in and out, you may now be asking yourself:

"How do I know which nutritional supplements and skin care products I should purchase?"
Find out in my article entitled, "7 Things to Look for When Choosing Nutritional Supplements and Skin Care Products". If you found this article helpful and would like to read more of Nadine's articles and tips on how to look and feel great in your thirties, visit her blog at http://www.naturalglowingskinover30.com/.

The Basics of Antioxidants

Free radicals "attack" your cells by stealing electrons away from them. This process of taking electrons away from other cells is referred to as oxidation. According to the free radical theory, aging is caused by the oxidation of your cells. So if that's the case, what do you think would be needed to prevent this from occurring; ANTI-oxidation, the opposite of oxidation, right? And what do you think has the ability to cause anti-oxidation?

ANTIOXIDANTS

Surely, you must have heard this term before. As the name suggests, their purpose is to prevent the oxidation of your cells. They are your cell's bodyguards. They are molecules that can repair cell damage caused by free radicals, by diminishing the impact of oxidative stress. When they scavenge free radicals, they have the ability to stop them from causing widespread destruction in your body.

For this to occur, they act as a shield and protect your cells from free radicals. Not only do they give one of their own electrons but they also allow themselves to be oxidized instead, putting an end to the free radicals oxidation process chain reaction. When they lose one of their own electrons, they do not become free radicals themselves as they are able to remain stable, even though an electron is now missing. In essence, these free-radical fighters protect your body from all its degenerative effects.

For you to get a clearer and more concrete understanding of the oxidation process, you can do a very quick and simple experiment. You have probably experienced this before but have never paid full attention to what was truly happening:

Take a fresh apple and cut it open. Leave one half on your kitchen counter for several hours... What happened to it? Well, you probably noticed that after a while, this half turned brown. This is the oxidation process in action.

Now, take some lemon juice and squeeze it on the other half of the apple before actually leaving it on your kitchen counter. Several hours later, what have you noticed? Chances are, you have noticed that unlike the previous half, this one has been preserved! The browning or rotting either significantly slowed down or stopped altogether. Why? Because lemon juice is known to contain a powerful antioxidant: Vitamin C.

Similar to the apple oxidation process, inside our bodies as well as our skin deteriorate in the same fashion if not preserved properly.

Quite scary wouldn't you say?

The good news is that some of them are already naturally produced by our bodies. That's a relief! BUT... Although this may be true, often this production is insufficient to handle the accumulation of free radicals over time. Under those circumstances, this insufficiency becomes even more important as we are continuously at risk due to external sources such as: our lifestyle, our bad eating habits, our environment and so forth and so on... That being said, the higher the level of free radical buildup in your body, the more antioxidants will be needed to fight them and to protect your body and skin from deteriorating and showing signs of aging.

For this reason, it is crucial to reduce free radicals in your body in order to slow down the aging process, both externally (your skin) and internally (your cells).
____________________________________________________________________

Most people do not seem to realize that it is mainly our lifestyle that is the biggest factor that affects the degree to which free radical damage occurs in our cells.
____________________________________________________________________

There has been a lot of "hype" concerning antioxidants and their benefits to the skin. Keep in mind that aging is a natural process of life. Hence, they (unfortunately) do not have the ability to completely eliminate fine lines or other sign of aging! Certain visible symptoms simply cannot be avoided. Nonetheless, although they cannot completely eliminate them, they surely have the ability to help significantly decrease the rate at which they begin to appear. If you are in your thirties and you are starting to worry about staying beautiful and looking young, this is definitely music to your ears!

Thus far, do you see how antioxidants play an important role? One question that may pop into your mind right now is, "What is the best way to take them?" As you may already know, they are normally ingested orally, meaning in what you take in through your mouth. But did you know that you can also take them in directly through your skin? Yes, your body can benefit from them in 2 different ways; first, from what you eat; second, from topical applications.

To learn more, read my articles entitled "Sexy Skin Revealed" and "Antioxidants To Feed Your Skin".

Top Anti Wrinkle Creams: Turning Beauty Dreams Into Reality

Eternal youth is a dream. Top anti wrinkle creams are a reality. They can help you come closer to your dream. If not eternally, at least, the creams can delay aging to a great extent. The condition is that the cream has to be top rated. Just any randomly picked cream from the counter will shatter your dream.

People with lines and folds on their faces must use wrinkle creams daily. Ignoring the condition and simply dreaming about beauty will lead you nowhere, except the path of aging.

Once wrinkles start appearing on the face, they never seem to stop. With each passing year, you will see a few wrinkles more. You may also find new additions in aging signs, like a dull-looking face, dry skin, blotches of pigmentation here and there, and more.

Staring your face in the mirror with horror is useless. The mirror will not oblige and change your reflection. The aging process will neither have mercy on you, nor will it reverse itself.

It is you who has to put in efforts to get back your lost youth and beauty.

Before you start dreaming about beauty again, overcome the hurdle of getting top anti wrinkle creams. It sounds easy, looking at the flood of creams in the market.

When you buy and use creams, you face the truth that most over-the-counter creams fail to work. You need a meticulous and well-informed approach to get your hands on the best cream.

Trick to get the best cream
Although it may look like a challenge to get the best cream, it is a simple process. You only need to check the ingredients and visit select retail stores that sell creams with those ingredients.

The ingredients that you must look for are Matrixyl 3000, Argireline, Hyaluronic Acid, and SPF. The blend of these ingredients makes for a powerful anti-aging formula. Moreover, the ingredients are scientifically proven to fight off aging signs and are subjected to a series of clinical tests before using them in the formula. They are natural-based too. So, creams containing them are risk free.

Whether you shop for a body firming cream, a night cream, a facial cream, an under eye cream, an instant wrinkle filler, or any other product, make sure you know what it contains. It is the ingredients that make a cream top rated and not its price, packaging, or advertisements (ads).

In fact, ads are a misguiding lot. They are created by cream companies to promote their products. They make you see the cream with rose-tinted glasses. Thanks to their creative team, they would make even a simple oil look like an exotic ingredient dipped in pureness and beauty. They weave such wonderful stories that you cannot help but believe that the cream will produce magical results as soon as it touches your face.

Then, you forget your Hyaluronic Acid cream and remember only the exquisitely-named and packed cream from the ads.

Sadly, a large number of people brush their knowledge through commercials. They use them as tools to know what creams are trendy in the market. This makes them miss certain scientifically produced top anti wrinkle creams created by skin experts themselves. Do not be one of those "ad-blinded" people. Use your intelligence and come closer to your dream of beauty.

Hydroxatone offers top anti wrinkle creams like the Hyaluronic Acid cream, body firming cream, under eye cream, and more. Know more about the products and their ingredients at the brand's site.

How You Can Look Better: 7 Common Mistakes Women Make When Applying Makeup

When it comes to makeup, the theory that less is more definitely applies. Women don't need to apply a lot of makeup to look beautiful. On the contrary, women who apply lots of lip liner, mascara, foundation or eye shadow often look less than their best.

Would you like to learn what mistakes to avoid when you apply makeup? Would you like to learn how to apply them so your beauty is enhanced? Look no further! In this article, you'll find 7 mistakes women make when applying makeup, along with what you can do to rectify each of the mistakes:

1 - Using An Incorrect Foundation Shade

The idea behind using foundation is not to give your skin a tan. Rather, the purpose of using foundations is to produce a complexion so smooth that the imperfections are covered. When searching for a foundation, be sure you get one that blends with your skin.

Before you purchase any foundation, be sure to choose a shade that matches your skin tone. Dab some on your skin to test the color, or even better, request for a sample for you to try it home. Notice the color under different lighting condition to determine if the shade suits you.

2 - Placing Makeup On Chapped Skin

When your skin is too dried and chapped, the worst thing you can do is to apply foundation on it. This will only result in your skin flakes being highlighted. The foundation lies on top of the skin instead of blending in.

The way to repair the dryness is to exfoliate on a regular basis and follow up with a rich moisturizer. Exfoliating removes dead skin, which then allows more moisturizer to be absorbed into your inner skin layer. When you have smoother skin, your foundation will then be able to blend in with your skin.

3 - Putting On Too Many Eye Colors On The Eyelids

Your compact will have at least four (if not more than four) colors in the pallet. But, you don't have to put them on all at the same time. Remember that less is more? It's never a good idea to wear more than three colors at any time. So, how should you apply eye makeup? According to many experienced makeup artists, you should go from dark to light in the following sequence:

- Light tones to be applied by the brow bone

- Medium tones to be applied on the eyelids.

- Dark tones to be applied as a liner.

However, for the day-to-day wear, just one shade of eye shadow will do.

4 - Penciling On The Eyebrows

If you do not use an eyebrow pencil correctly, your eyebrow will only end up looking weird, as though it as been artificially painted on.

A trick is to select an eye shadow color that closely resembles the color of your hair. Using a thin angled brush, apply the eye shadow in small strokes on your eyebrow.

5 - Using Black Eyeliner In The Daytime

Here's a rule to remember about colors: dark colors reduces the appearance of an object, while lighter colors enlarges it. This also applies to your eye! Hence, black eyeliners should not be worn during the day, as it will result in your eyes looking smaller. Use a lighter shade to let your eyes look fresh and awake.

6 - Overusing "Luminizing" Products

Makeup trends have evolved such that luminous particles are added into almost every cosmetic product such as foundation, powders, highlighting products etc... It is good to apply the luminous range of products on your skin; but do not overuse them - limit it's use to only one or two product.

One tip is to apply (sparingly of course!) illuminating products under the eyes and place it on your inner eye corners and cheekbones to give a nice glow to your makeup.

7 - Over-grooming Or Ignoring The Eyebrows

Eyebrows that are well groomed can highlight your eyes, your face, etc. If you can afford it, have a professional beautician shape your eyebrows.

You want to maintain your eyebrows but remember not to overdo it. Over-tweezing them could result in very thin eyebrows or no eyebrows because as you age, your hair growth slows down.

Hence, the best tip when is to clean the area up around the brows and follow the natural arch of your eyebrow to get the best shape.

Do you have dry/oily/combination/acne prone skin? Which type of skincare/makeup products is suitable for your skin condition? What brush should you use to apply your makeup? Find the answer to all these and more at UrbaneWomen and you will be applying makeup like a professional in no time!

We have to face that reality that we are getting older and older each day. The signs of aging are seen in our faces and most of the time age can be determined in our eyes. Yes indeed, sometimes your eyes can make you look old.

Since the skin surrounding our eyes is very delicate and thin, it is the first part of your face to show the early signs of aging. Sexy Skin Revealed

By now, you should know that antioxidants are your cells' knights in shining armor and keep them healthy. If your cells are healthy, so are you and of course, so is your skin. For this reason, in order to maximize the results, it is best to take antioxidants in any way shape or form. One of the options is in skin care formulations, such as in cleansers or moisturizers or other skin care products.

You may ask yourself, "Is it safe to put on my skin?" In general, antioxidant skin care products are basically considered to be organic in nature. How come? It's because the most powerful antioxidants are normally plant derivatives. For this reason, it is safe to put them on your skin. While your body is receiving antioxidants from your diet and other sources, it is also recommended to simultaneously use topical skin care products in which they are incorporated. This will allow your skin to receive beneficial ingredients directly through your pores, resulting in faster absorption. As a result, your skin is guaranteed to maximize the benefits by enjoying proper care from the outside while an antioxidant-rich diet works from within.

Antioxidant skin care products have the ability to naturally change the appearance of your skin. Let's briefly go over the top 5 benefits they can provide:

1. Slows down the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Unfortunately fine lines and wrinkles are inevitable however, it is possible to delay the onset of their appearance or help make them less visible once slightly present. Antioxidant skin care products actually have the ability to help revitalize the skin and allow it to appear more youthful. The appearance of fines lines and wrinkles can be reduced with most antioxidants however there are two of them that are known to be more beneficial to the skin: Vitamin C and E. It's important to realize that creams that are normally applied to the eye contour (to reduce crow's feet, for example) seem to contain these vitamins as part of their ingredients.

2. Reduces inflammation.

A second reason why antioxidants in skin care products are beneficial is because of their ability to calm inflammation. For instance, grape seed extract, which is probably one of the most effective antioxidants (if not the most), produces anti-inflammatory results by aiding blood circulation and cell metabolism. As a result, the inflammation-reducing capabilities of antioxidants skin care products lead to a skin complexion that is more even and also helps prevent the onset of acne.

3. Makes the skin firmer.

Antioxidant skin care brings about a third top benefit, known as skin firming. The effects or symptoms of aging may be significantly slowed down by antioxidants which have the ability to not only improve the health of your skin but more importantly to visibly rejuvenate its appearance. Namely, Coenzyme Q10 is a common type of skin-firming antioxidant that plays a particularly important role in regenerating vitamin E. It is often found in serums or moisturizers and is great for use in products meant to tone the skin.

4. Reduces scarring.

Topical antioxidants carry a fourth benefit to the skin-reducing the appearance of scar tissue. One point that is often overlooked is the fact that the cell structure of tissue that has been scarred is different than that of healthy skin. You may have noticed it yourself when you get a cut, for instance. Before it is completely healed, the skin tends to look and feel more rigid. However, certain types of antioxidants found in skin care products can help increase the blood flow to the scar tissue, thus minimizing its look while skin renewal occurs.

5. Repairs sun damage.

Last but not least, the fifth top benefit of antioxidant skin care products is the ability to repair sun damage. As mentioned in one of my blog posts entitled "What Everyone Wants to Know About Sunscreens", some exposure to sun is not dangerous (contrary to what most people believe). However, overexposure definitely damages skin cells, impacting your skin's overall appearance and leaving it looking and feeling dry. Since antioxidants stimulate blood circulation to the skin, it can promote cell renewal and therefore help repair sun-damaged skin and allow it to appear younger.

So we have seen how antioxidant skin care products can provide great benefits and leave you with sexy skin, free of scars, signs of aging and damage. Now you might think to yourself, OK, well, all I have to do now is buy skin care products that are packed with antioxidants and then I'm good to go!

Guess what? Sorry to burst your bubble but, although it can definitely help improve your skin's appearance, it is still not enough. It is only the first step to achieving beautiful skin and it is, unfortunately, insufficient. For you to be able to obtain true results there is a second step that must be completed in the process and it is, in my opinion, even more important than the first. Yes, obtaining natural glowing skin is twofold. We have just focused on the outside. Now let's focus on the inside.

Finding a Hair School for Inexpensive Cuts

Going to a hair school for a cut is a good option if you can find a reliable one. There are some things to consider before deciding to get your cut at a place like this. You might not want to consider trying this right before an important occasion just in case you do not like the results. With that in mind, there are a few other things to consider. Look at the cost, cleanliness, and the results before you decide to get a cut at a specific place like this.

The cost is of course a consideration because since the people cutting your style have not completed their training then the cut should be fairly inexpensive. If you think it is too much then you should perhaps do some price comparisons.

Cleanliness is also important as you look at a hair school for a cut. You can visit the location before deciding to see if they seem to have a good process of cleaning up their tools and the floor. Hair is not the cleanest thing at times, so you will want to make sure that you do not get someone else's all over you when you go to get a cut.

The results will probably be your most important consideration as you look at a hair school for a cut. The way to see the results without actually getting a cut yourself is to go to the school and sit in the waiting area for a while. You should see people leave who have gotten cuts, and this should help you to know whether the results are good enough for you to go there yourself.

After considering these areas, you should have a pretty good idea as to whether you will want to go to a particular hair school for a cut. These schools would likely offer other options as well like color, highlights, and waxing. Just be sure to speak with the manager and see the results of the one that will be working with you before doing something too difficult.

Hopefully you will have a good experience if you decide to get a cut, color, or wax at an institution like this. You should be able to find schools near you that you can look into for lower cost services. If you do not have anything to lose, spend less money and look into this great option that helps you and gives the stylist good practice.

CoolSculpting - Stubborn Fat's Arch Enemy

Perhaps stubborn fat is the most annoying fat of all. This is because, as its name suggests, it's the type of fat that just won't disappear no matter how much exercising you do. What's its problem anyway? Doesn't it know when it's not wanted? Well, not really. Stubborn fat truly is stubborn.

This is why CoolSculpting is becoming so increasingly popular. A treatment this is not recommended for those who are severely overweight, CoolSculpting helps individuals with stubborn fat to contour their bodies in such a way that they get the shape that they've always wanted. And this treatment isn't liposuction people.

Unlike that popular, yet invasive surgery, CoolSculpting requires no incisions, anesthesia, needles or cutting. Instead, this fabulous fat reduction treatment involves pain-free, walk-in walk-out visits to your clinic. And how does it work? Well, firstly, it's important to remember that CoolSculpting is not a solution to obesity.

It's best for those who are just a bit overweight and have issues ridding themselves of excess fat in the thighs or abdomen areas. Each procedure generally takes no more than an hour and uses freezing technology to safely and effectively break down fat cells. Since it's not liposuction, patients don't have to worry about any side effects, scarring, lumps or irregularities.

The unique technology used in CoolSculpting treatments targets and destroys fat cell membranes in the fat layer only. That means that the surrounding blood vessels and nerves remain unaffected. The broken down fat cells are then naturally transported to the liver and safely disposed of by the body.

Within a week or two, patients are able to see results. Progress also continues over the course of a month. As a result, CoolSculpting has truly become a great solution for those who feel as if hope has been lost in the battle against stubborn fat. The treatment, however, is not a be all end all.

In other words, maintaining a healthy diet and keeping up with a good workout routine will always be recommended. In our next blog, we will take a look at the type of foods we should all be eating in order to help us keep unwanted fat away. But for more information about CoolSculpting, be sure to contact a physician.

Keep in mind that it is always important to consult with a trained professional about any type of procedure. Speaking to an expert first is always best. And if you're in a battle with stubborn fat, you'll be sure to get some information that is useful to you. CoolSculpting is quickly become its arch enemy.

7 Tips For Maintaining And Caring For Acrylic Nails

To get long, thick, strong nails when theirs won't grow because they're too weak or too short, many women are turning to acrylic ones. Another advantage offered by acrylic nails is that they can be decorated easily.

However, just having acrylic nails doesn't free you from the responsibility of taking good care of your nails underneath (your acrylic ones). Not only that, you also need to put in some effort to take good care of your acrylic nails as neglecting them may result in your natural nails splitting, or fungi growing in them (yuck!).

Therefore, in order to keep your acrylic nails looking good, and at the same time protect the health of your natural nails, make sure you follow these seven tips:

1. Acrylic Nails Are Not Knives Or Tin Openers

Your acrylic nails may seem indestructible, but they were not made or designed for tasks like opening tins or punching through heavy plastic packages. Please use the right tool for the right job. Avoid biting them as well!

2. Keep Them Dry, Always

Water is your fake nail's worst enemy. Not only can it cause it to lift off your natural nail, but also fungi and bacteria need water to grow - and you don't want any of those things to happen to your nails.

Therefore, in order to prevent them, you have to keep your nails as dry as you can; And that means drying your hands thoroughly with a towel after every single time you get them wet. Preventing water from seeping underneath your nails is essential to help keep your them in a good, tip-top condition.

3. Use Antibacterial Soap

Many sets of acrylic nails fall victim to bacteria. And bacteria can cause the natural nail bed to discolor and deteriorate, which can leave the nail damaged for a long time, possibly even permanently. Therefore, it's very important to do everything you can to prevent bacteria from getting a foothold under your nail.

One of the best things you can do is use antibacterial hand soap to wash your hands. This is the simplest way to protect them from the threat of a bacterial infection.

4. Do Chores With Gloves On

If you have acrylic nails, it's a good idea to wear rubber gloves while doing household chores like washing dishes or mopping.

Not only will the gloves help to keep your nails dry, but they'll also protect them from chipping, splitting, or snagging on things, all of which can be both embarrassing and painful. Keep at least two pairs of rubber gloves somewhere in the house, and remember to put them on before starting on any chore.

5. Before Bed, Swab Your Fingernails With Alcohol

Every night, before going to bed, dip a cotton swab in rubbing alcohol and use it to clean around and under your nails. This will help to get rid of bacteria and dirt surrounding it.

One thing to note here is that, doing such treatment may result in your acrylic nails taking on a slightly cloudy appearance thereafter. And if that happens, not to worry. All you need to do is to just touch them up in the morning with a coat of clear white nail polish.

6. Don't Remove Acrylic Nails By Yourself

It is possible to remove your fake nails at home by immersing them in a nail polish remover that contains acetone. However, it's better not to. Avoid the risk of damaging your real nails underneath by letting the professionals at the salon take them off.

7. If Your Acrylic Nail Becomes Damaged, Get It Fixed Right Away

If you discover that one of your acrylic nails has started to lift away from the natural nail, or if you chip or break it by accident, get to your manicurist and have a professional repair it as soon as you possibly can.

Chipped, broken, and lifting acrylic nails all provide opportunities for water to get into the nail bed, which invites fungal and bacterial growth. Many of these salons offer free repairs to damaged nails within a certain number of days after they're first applied, and most charge less for a minor repair than they do for a full fill.

Do you know that having clean, neat and healthy looking nails says a lot about your personality? Visit UrbaneWomen to learn how to maintain and care for your nails, along with how to give yourself a professional-looking manicure and pedicure at home.

5 Must-Read Q and A About Antioxidants

OK... So you realize how important antioxidants are for maintaining healthy cellular nutrition and consequently a healthy YOU and skin. You feel ready to make them part of your routine so that they can fight free-radicals, slow down the aging process and encourage your youthful-looking, natural glowing skin to surface (and stay there). You have finally made the decision to go for it and incorporate antioxidants into your lifestyle in any way, shape or form, whether it is in terms of what you put on your body/skin (e.g. skin care products) and/or what you put in it (e.g. foods and nutritional supplements). To get there, this requires that you create the good habit of taking antioxidants DAILY as well as allowing your skin to absorb them just as frequently. The idea of all these antioxidants in your body as well as on your skin may seem like a lot and may raise all sorts of questions in your mind, especially if this is new to you.

Here is a series of quick Q&A to reassure you a little...

Q: "Are antioxidants safe?"

A: Natural antioxidants are safe. Their components are normally found in foods that have been consumed by humans for many years. To ensure complete safety, it is recommended that the antioxidant products you choose, whether you plan on using them on your skin or ingesting them, are laboratory tested. Of course, for those of you who are pregnant (or trying to conceive) or may have some kind of illness, it is important to consult a physician first, before consuming antioxidants, primarily in the form of supplements. For those who are not pregnant and are illness-free, they are not harmful if taken in the recommended dosage.

Q: "How often should I use antioxidant products to maximize results?"

A: The purpose of antioxidants is to prevent free-radical damage, thus influencing the aging process in your favor. Keep in mind that free radicals caused by stress, toxins, diet and chemical products (just to name a few) are always at work, destroying your cells. They are everywhere and are part of your daily life; there is absolutely no escape. For this reason, it is essential to maintain a DAILY regimen (both oral and topical applications) to protect your skin as much as you can to fight the signs of aging.

Q: "What kind of results can I expect from antioxidants?"

A: When it comes to antioxidant products, your expectations regarding the outcome must be realistic. It all depends on the amount of free radical damage that has already occurred. For those of you with a lot of damage, results may come more slowly but surely... For one thing, you will definitely see noticeable changes or improvements to your skin in general after several weeks. For instance, you may notice a difference in terms of your skin tone and even texture. Remember however that the purpose of antioxidants is to win the fight against free-radical damage and preserve your skin by slowing down the aging process. That of course, doesn't happen overnight. These results will show over time after regular use.

Q: "How long do the results normally last?"

A: Suppose you never went to the gym before. Then, you decide to start a serious intensive program. Obviously, after approximately 3 weeks you will already start noticing some changes in your body-a much more firm, toned and sexy physique. Now, what would happen if you stopped going to the gym? Chances are your body would go back to its original shape-the one you had before you hit the gym in the first place! But as long as you continue, then you will keep what you have worked for. The same analogy applies to the use of antioxidant products. The results will last as long as you keep your antioxidant regimen, whether it is in terms of your diet, your nutritional supplements or your skin care products. Remember, true skin beauty is by all means a lifetime commitment.

Q: "There are many different kinds of antioxidants out there. Which ones are best for my skin?"

A: Although antioxidants have the ability to feed all the organs of your body, when it comes to your skin, you shouldn't take just anything. There are specific antioxidants that effectively protect your skin against the aging symptoms of free radicals. It is recommended to search for those that include natural grape seed oil or extract. Grape seed extract is a powerful antioxidant known to protect and strengthen living tissue, thus your cells. Vitamin C and E are also beneficial to the skin.

Nutritional Deficiency? Who Me?

Did you know that your health begins with that of your cells? Hence, if your cells are healthy, so are you. Therefore proper nutrition is crucial for cellular nutrition, which in turn is important for maintaining cellular health and thus keeping your skin looking younger. You probably know that the only way your cells can win the fight against free radicals, caused by external factors, is with proper nutrients and of course antioxidants, as they protect your cells and help your skin repair damage.

Now, if nutrients and antioxidants are the only elements that have the ability to give your cells the boost they need to fight free radicals, then one question that may come to your mind is, "Are my cells actually getting the proper nutrition required to win this fight?"

In order to answer this question, let's first take a look at our soil. You are probably aware that in North America, nutrient depletion in our soil has become a huge concern. We are supposed to obtain our vitamins and minerals from what we eat but unfortunately, we don't. How come? Well, because strong fertilizers are used by farmers in order to produce what seem to be nutritious crops but in reality, are simply not. Fertilized fruits and vegetables, for example, may have a good caloric content, but in terms of real nutrition, they do not have much. As you purchase a bag of Granny Smith Apples or a bag of carrots, you are probably thinking to yourself that you are doing your body a huge nutritious favor. But guess what? You are not! What are you getting instead? Empty calories-in other words, slim-to-none essential nutrients are what you are truly getting. More alarming is that the majority of produce sold in grocery stores actually fall under this category as well, whether they come directly from the soil or not.

Let's take chicken as an example. Think about the hot summer days when you are barbecuing in your backyard with your friends; all of you are savoring tender, juicy chicken breasts... Mmmmm, simply delectable, right? Well, for it to taste this way on your taste buds, keep in mind that the little chicken on your plate was initially injected with various chemicals designed to fight parasites, improve the pigmentation in the meat, grow at a faster rate and with bigger and more tender muscles before it was slaughtered and cooked. Remember back in high school when you were taught transitive relations, where if A is related to B and B is in turn related to C, then A is also related to C? Well check this out:

You (A) eat chicken (B). Chicken (B) ate chemicals (C). Then you (A) ate chemicals (C) too!

Back to our soil; equally important, over time, heavy use of fertilizers by farmers causes the soil to eventually lose all of it nutrients. In turn, this deficiency in vitamins and minerals results in the soil being burnt out. So, the answer to the previous question of whether or not your cells are getting the proper nutrition required to fight free radicals, is a big NO! And don't forget, your skin is also paying the price!!!

The main challenge is obtaining enough of the right nutrients in today's environment. According to a government study, the majority of North Americans are deficient in essential nutrients. This does not come as a surprise, considering the type of fast-paced lifestyle we have been living in. That is to say that it is quite difficult to get the optimal amounts of nutrients needed just from the foods we eat in today's society.

That being said, did you know:

To get the daily recommended amount of vitamin E that is needed, you would need to consume: 13.8 cups of vitamin E fortified wheat germ, 7.5 cups of unsalted dry-roasted almonds, 72.6 cups of cooked, boiled, and drained unsalted spinach, and finally drink 3.6 cups of safflower oil-every single day!

Quite unrealistic but true-believe it or not. And that's just for vitamin E! Imagine the other ones! At the end of the day, this would require that you quit your full-time job in order to become a stay-at-home eater, simply to ensure that you get the daily recommended servings of foods rich in essential vitamins and minerals!!! That is just plain crazy!

Fortunately, on the positive side, there is actually one thing that you can do in order to help make all this possible, without having to quit your job! So, if today's fast-paced lifestyle fueled with a "GO!-GO!-GO!" mentality is preventing us from getting the proper nutrition that is required for optimal health, then how can we compensate for this lack? I'm glad you asked. The SOLUTION is to take essential vitamins and minerals in the form of:

NUTRITIONAL ANTIOXIDANT SUPPLEMENTS

Hair Care Tips - How to Always Have Good Hair Day

Rich or poor, young or old, it's important to have good-looking hair. While you may think that beautiful hair costs money, or that it's a matter of genetics that simply isn't so.

If you want to keep your hair looking healthy, be careful about using heating products like blow dryers and curling irons. Only use these tools for a short period of time and keep the heat setting as low as possible. This will help to prevent split ends.

Make sure you are using the right shampoo for you. Everyone has a different kind of hair and some will require more moisturizer, while other will require a great smoothing agent. To find the shampoo that best meets your needs, speak to your stylist at your next appointment.

If you want to prevent split ends from forming, it's important that you have your hair trimmed regularly. If you keep your hair short, you should have it cut every 6 to 8 weeks. If you have long hair or would like to grow it out, it's still essential that you trim it on a regular basis.

Good idea for keeping strong hair is to use two conditioners when you wash your hair. Use one in the shower after rinsing off the shampoo. Apply leave-in conditioner after you are out of the shower and you towel dry your hair. Leave-in conditioner will give you a nice soft feel to your hair all day long. It will protect your hair from any harmful sun rays or dirt or debris you may come across every day. When you are applying conditioner, do not forget to use a wide-toothed comb. This helps to distribute the conditioner evenly to all of your hair shafts. The combination of two conditioners will reduce the static in your hair, as well as, leaving it healthy, soft and manageable.

After shampooing and conditioning, rinse your hair with cool water. This closes the cuticle, allowing light to reflect off your hair, which causes it to look much shinier. If your hair is very dry, try using a spray-on shine mist.

It is best to avoid combing and brushing hair while it's wet. Hair is weaker when it's wet, increasing the chances of your hair follicles breaking off with each stroke of your comb or brush. Instead, wait for the hair to dry before beginning any grooming practices, such as these, that will put mild stress on the hair.

Even people blessed with easy to care for hair have bad hair days now and then. Read over this advice and find out which tips will work best for you.

7 Tips For Taking Care Of Your Long Hair The Way It Deserves

If you want your long hair to be shiny and lush, you've got to maintain it properly. Long, sexy hair can look gorgeous in any style when it's well cared for. But when long hair is damaged, dry, or frizzy, no style is going to look good.

Long hair is more likely to get damaged and break. It's more prone to split ends, can be hard to manage in summer's humidity and gets dried out in the winter. But you can manage your long hair to keep it looking gorgeous all year long - these 7 tips will show you how.

1. Get A Layered Cut

When your hair is all one length, it tends to look flat and drags the appearance of the face down.

By adding layers, your hair will have more bounce and volume. Layers around your face will help to frame your features, while longer, subtle layers reduce the weight of the hair giving it more movement. In fact, well cut layers can camouflage droopy jowls or balance out the shape of your face.

2. Keep Trimmed

Long hair doesn't look its best if it's not maintained, and the most basic of maintenance is keeping it trimmed. Regular trims help keep your style shaped well and prevent split ends.

You should see your stylist for a trim every 6-8 weeks, and make sure to only get scissor cuts; use of a razor can increase the appearance of split ends.

3. Deep Treat Each Week

Your hair grows about a half inch each month. If you've got hair down to the middle of your back, imagine how old the ends of those strands are. Some of your hair has been around for a year or two - or possibly longer!

Trims will get rid of split ends, but regular deep treatments are vital for keeping the ends of your hair from drying out and breaking. Once a week, skip your regular conditioner and apply a deep treatment. If you hair is subjected to extreme conditions - like sun, chlorine, coloring or heat - you may want to treat it twice a week.

4. Wash & Condition Your Hair

Hair should be washed several times a week with a shampoo that's formulated for your hair - oily, combination, dry or normal. Focus on the scalp and roots where oil and product accumulates, then work lather out to the ends.

After washing, make sure to condition your hair. Where washing is focused more on the roots, conditioner is most vital to the dry ends of your long hair. Leave it on for at least a full minute before rinsing thoroughly.

5. Use Dry Shampoo

Your long hair may seem like it has a split personality; while the roots are oily, the ends are dry and frizzy. If frequent washing because of oily scalp is causing frizzy ends, why not try a dry shampoo?

These talc-based powders absorb oil to keep hair looking fresh longer - without the drying effect of shampoo. You can skip one or two shampoos a week this way.

6. Avoid Overheating

Stay away from heat-styling as much as possible; that means avoiding the blow dryer, the flat iron and the curling brush. It damages and dries our hair, making it more susceptible to breaking and frizz. Let your hair air-dry as often as you can.

If you most straighten, only do the out layers of your hair and make sure to use a serum or other product designed to protect hair from heat.

7. Be Careful How You Accessorize

Some hair accessories should be avoided if you have long hair. Elastic bands aren't good for anyone's hair, but they're especially damaging to long hair. Stick with the softer fabric "scrunchies" for your ponytail. Styling combs and headbands should be made from a heavy plastic rather than thin stuff to avoid having the teeth break off in your hair and cause tangles.

When styling your hair, make sure you don't tug or tangle in ways that cause breakage or tangling.
