Eating Your Way to More Beautiful Skin

Eating Your Way to More Beautiful Skin

As we all know, a skin care regimen for both morning and night is essential to keep skin youthful and beautiful. But what many tend to forget is that their diet is just as important as any topical treatment.

What we eat coupled with the skin care regimen we use daily will defy age with our bodies from the inside and out.

Before diving into the key points, it's interesting to point out that green tea has a host of benefits. Drinking it is great for the body and skin, and some cutting-edge skin care lines, are also using green tea extracts as a topical formula treatment. High in antioxidants, green tea is great for reducing fine lines and wrinkles.

And when it's time to buy fruits and vegetables, do take advantage of all the amazing Farmer's Markets we have around the nation. Items sold are fresh, and more often than not, organic.

Research has revealed that a high glycemic diet can cause premature aging. A high glycemic diet has simple carbohydrates that boost sugar levels in the body. An easy way to target these foods is their white base coloring. Foods that are in this high glycemic list include:

White baked potato White rice (including instant white rice)Pizza White bread with wheat flour - 71 Pancakes Yams Rice cake Popcorn Watermelon

MSG laden in foods can actually cause puffiness in the face especially around the eyes and cheeks. Also, it's important to lower sugar intake, as well.

Another thing to lower in your diet is your caffeine intake. Although coffee may boost your energy levels first thing in the morning and then again the afternoon, it won't do any good for your skin. It will actually dehydrate it. This also holds true for sodas, tea and other products which have caffeine. It's a challenge to decrease coffee intake when there are so many coffee houses at every street corner.

Another beverage that dehydrates the skin is alcohol so be sure to limit the amount consumed to keep skin supple and gorgeous.

The key to any diet is finding the right balance.

So what are good foods that promote beautiful skin? The list includes healthy and tasty foods such as:

Raw nuts Avocados Extra virgin olive oil Fresh fruits and vegetables Tomatoes Salmon Eggs Pomegranates Beans

These foods will keep skin young and luminous -- feeling good on the inside means looking good on the outside.
