You Dont Have to Kill Animals to Wear Hair Feathers

You Dont Have to Kill Animals to Wear Hair Feathers

Feather hair extensions may be a cool and affordable way to accessorize your hair, but are they worth the life of thousands of roosters that are killed for their exotic plumage? Wearing feathers of animals aren't a recent trend, and people throughout centuries have been wearing them. But these were done in a humane way using feathers that naturally fell off these animals.

But thanks to modern day retailing, all concerns regarding the humane treatment of animals are neglected. Animals such as roosters, peacocks, pheasants, and ostriches are reared especially for their feathers. In fact, roosters that are bred for these purposes are genetically altered to produce long and luxurious feathers.

It is one thing to be fashionable and quite another to be a fashion victim. These roosters are sometimes euthanized, and sometimes plucked when still alive! And the ones whose feathers are plucked alive eventually die of pain. Breeding these animals is a profitable business and people are known to pay as much as $500 for a saddle. There are thousands of birds that are killed every year only to help young girls stay in style. Of course, many of them buy without worrying about the source of these feathers. But there are many who justify their purchase by claiming that the animals would die anyway. Yes, they would, and so would we. Why is it that people raise a hue and cry, when humans are subject to torture? Do animals have any less of a right to life than human beings? As to the age old theory that chickens do not feel pain; recent research has proved that chickens do feel pain when killed.

This trend of killing animals to obtain their feathers is particularly despicable when there are several other cruelty-free ways to highlight your hair. There are some manufacturers who use heat resistant synthetic materials. These faux hair feather extensions look just as good, if not better than the original. From rich purples, dark blues, greens, violets, luscious pinks and bright reds; these feathers come in a wide variety of colors and shades.

With a little imagination, you can create your own version of these hair feathers with bright colored ribbons and nail polishes. All that you got to do is to cut these into thin strips, paint them with colors of your choice and then clip them as you would normally clip hair extensions.

Hey Ladies! Stop wearing feather extensions that are made by killing innocent animals.
Kate Manigold is an avid fashionista, who is against cruelty to animals. Her love for animals has led her to look for ways to make hair feathers than are made without killing animals. She now writes extensively about the inhumane ways in which these animals are killed and also advocates the use of synthetic hair feather extensions.
