5 Tips to Avoid Hair Loss

5 Tips to Avoid Hair Loss

Hair loss is not so uncommon. Both men and women will experience some type of hair loss throughout their lives for different reasons. While it is normal to shed between 50 and 100 hairs a day, losing more than this is what we will call thinning and baldness. Unless there is a medical reason for the loss, small changes and a more careful routine can help your hair get back on the right track. This article will be useful even if wearing wigs has become a necessity.

1. Be sure to include Vitamin E in your daily diet as it contributes to healthy hair, nails, skin, and scalp. These can be vegetables, nuts, almonds, and certain cereals. Vitamin E is a cocktail of antioxidants that protect the cells. More than healthy hair and beautiful skin, a diet rich in vitamin E also provides protection against diseases such as Cardiovascular disease, cataracts, some cancers, and poor immune function. A teaspoon of Extra Virgin Olive Oil is a great source of Vitamin E and does wonders on the hair, scalp, and the body in general.

2. Do not over-process or add too much heat. A wonderful benefit of wearing wigs is the protection that gives the natural hair. There is no need to use perms or relaxers as often while wearing a wig or half wig. Allowing the scalp to rest from chemicals or heat while wearing hairpieces can be beneficial and improve the texture of hair. Many women transitioning from relaxed hair find natural hairpieces to be a perfect choice to achieve style and protect their own hair.

3. Braiding or plaiting after a good conditioner while wearing a wig allows the hairpiece to fit more secure and flush against the head. It is also easy to apply oils or other products between washes to promote healthy hair and growth. Easy access to the scalp and allowing it to breathe is important as well.

4. Individuals with more stress tend to pull at their scalp (trichotillomania) which pulls the hair from the follicle and results in thinning and bald patches. The body manifests internal stress externally and hair loss is one symptom that may occur. Objectively assessing stressful issues and addressing them as best you can is one solution, as is activity and exercise. All of these contribute to an overall healthier person which effects the hair growing cycle.

5. Proper hygiene, shampooing regularly and trimming dead ends will also encourage the hair to stay healthy instead of split at the ends. When shedding or breaking hairs outnumber the new growth, hair loss is the net outcome. Keeping it moisturized and eliminating split ends regularly can slow hair loss.
