5 Ways To Dry Your Nail Polish More Quickly

How many times has this happened to you? You've put 30 or more minutes of effort into your nail polish, and the next time reach into your purse or scratch behind your ear, one or more of your perfectly-polished nails gets dinged or scratched. Seriously? Didn't you wait long enough for your newly applied polish to completely dry?

Fortunately, there are a number of ways to get your nail polish completely dry in less time. In this article, you're going to learn five of them.

1 - Use A Blow Dryer

If you were getting your nails done at a salon, you'd probably use a special fan to dry them.

At home, drying your nails is one more use for the "cool" button on your hair dryer. Heat removes moisture from hair, but it actually slows down the firming process for nail polish, so try drying your nails with a blast of cool air.

2 - Using A Spray

The nail-drying sprays found at your neighborhood drugstore really do work as advertised: they help nail polish dry in just minutes.

However, you don't actually have to buy a special nail-drying spray - Pam is known to work just as well to help your newly applied polish dry faster. Just spray it on, wait a few minutes, and then rinse it off, so your fingers won't smell like canola oil all day.

3 - Use Thinner Coats

When applying your colored coats of polish, try putting on three very thin coats instead of two thicker coats.

Give each coat a few minutes to dry before applying the next one. At first, it may feel like this extra step makes your manicure take longer, but in the end, you'll actually spend less time waiting for your nails to dry than you were before.

4 - Use Cold Temperatures

As mentioned above, cold temperatures make nail polish harden more quickly.

Here's how to make your own ice-water bath: Before you begin your manicure, put some ice cubes and cold water in a bowl. After you paint your nails, hold them in the water for approximately one minute.

An ice-water bath helps nail polish become solid all the way through, rather than only drying the top layer, so it protects your nails from divots.

As an aside, the reverse is also true: just as cold solidifies nail polish, heat liquifies it. If your nail polish is hard to remove, try soaking your hands in some warm water.

5 - Use a Quick-Drying Topcoat

Quick-drying topcoats keep your nail polish in place and protected. Don't put all your trust in it, though - the polish under the topcoat will still be liquid for a while and might shift, creating ripples or lumps.
