Choosing Between Full Time and Part Time Program for Cosmetology and Esthetic Courses

You are planning to take a cosmetology program but you are not really quite sure as to where and which school to enroll. Aside from that, you are not sure on the things to consider when finding a good beauty school in town and whether you enroll for full time or part time program.

So, which program suits best for you? Is it full time or part time? Well, whether you are planning to enroll for cosmetology or esthetic program, you need to carefully choose between the two as both have their own advantages and disadvantages. Examine the following:

Choosing a full time program

This is more ideal choice if you want to complete the required hours right away. Full time set-up is usually chosen by students who have ample time or in other words, those students who do not have any other work. Again, this is ideal for you if you want to finish the entire duration of the program early. Cosmetology programs, as you might have known, usually take 10 months to complete. However, you can finish the entire course earlier when you take it full time. That also means that you can take internship earlier and can apply for a cosmetology job right away.

Part time program

A part time cosmetology program, on the other hand, is advantageous for those students who are currently working and do not have the time needed to take the course full time. A lot of cosmetology or esthetician schools offer flexible time for their students in which students can choose the time that is most convenient to them. However, choosing a part time program will increase and may even double the whole duration or length of the program.

Some things you need to know before enrolling for a cosmetology or esthetic program:

A General Education Development or high school degree is required to qualify for a cosmetology program - this part of the minimum requirement.Financial aid is available in lots of beauty schools throughout the country - take advantage of this privilege if you are qualified. To complete the course and qualify for a license, you will need, usually, to complete 1, 600 hours of education (e.g. this is the required duration needed when you want to get a license as cosmetologist in California). You will need to pass the State Board exam to get your license to work in the state where you complete your cosmetology program.
