How to Properly Store Hair Extensions

How to Properly Store Hair Extensions

When you first decide to go for a completely new look by adding hair extensions to your tresses, you may not think of some important information. One thing that may be overlooked is the storage of such accessories when not in use. Like most things, if left in the wrong conditions, they will not fulfill their potential.

When you buy food it has certain instructions on where and how long to store it for. Some can be kept in a number of places, but to make sure it lasts as long as possible you should follow specific instructions on the products. This oddly also applies to extensions. It is certainly not the first thing that springs to mind when you imagine hair care, but it is important.

With certain types, such as those easily adjusted and can be taken out from your own locks, they need to be washed separately. You will get the best effect if you take out your extensions and then wash with specially formulated shampoo and conditioners. Once you have cleaned them, you must make sure that they are fully dry so there is no moisture left behind. If you do leave them damp and store them away they will become sticky and attract dirt and dust. This of course is not what you want and it can also lead to unnecessary tangles. The best way to dry them is to carefully clip them to a coat hanger and leave them to dry naturally in a warm environment. If you store away incorrectly it can create mold and add an unattractive smell, especially when using real human hair.

After being left to completely dry out, you should store them inside a plastic storage container. This should be big enough to lay them down flat and as neatly as possible, without taking up too much space in your room of course. You must, like many foods, keep the box out of direct sunlight. Some of the best places to store them are in your wardrobe or drawers. This means you can also keep the storage box flat whilst keeping your floor space free.

Keeping your extensions stored away properly will make sure they stay smelling fresh and are kept clean for a while. Making sure they are not in direct contact with the suns' rays will ensure you keep the color that you have purchased. Following these simple steps will help you to keep your hair looking great.
