How to Apply and Maintain Hair Feathers
Hair feathers are the latest fashion craze across schools and colleges in the US. But rather than buying hair extensions made from the real feather of animals, it makes sense to buy synthetic hair extensions that are affordable yet look authentic. They're easy to apply and maintain. Here's how to apply faux feather extensions:
• To begin with you need hair clips, and a set of hand pliers. When looking for hair feathers, look for manufacturers who promise ease of use. There are some that come attached with an easy loop and lock system. All that you need to do is to gather the hair around the spot that you've picked to apply the extension and take a strand of hair which is of the same thickness as the feather. The strand of hair should be thick enough, because if it isn't, the feather may slide through.
• The extension should be applied about an inch from the hairline; i.e. not too close, nor too far from the scalp. If it's too close, you are sure to feel uncomfortable, and if it's far, it'll look silly, especially when your hair grows.
• You need to put your fingers around the loop, put it around the strand of hair, and pull it around. And when it's close to the hairline, tighten it with the pliers.
Maintaining them is easy as well. You can shampoo them as you wash you air. Just remember to blow dry or air dry it after a bath. You can also cut them so that they blend with your hair style. If you'd like to style your feather hair extensions, make sure that you buy the heat resistant ones. They're super easy to style; you can straighten them, curl them or even wear them as a braid. But remember to not use more than 180 degree of heat.
Removing them is easier as well. All that you got to do is to squeeze the sides of the loop with pliers, so that they open up. And when the rings are half open, you can slide the extension from the hair. You can save these loops to be used again when reapplying the feather. Ideally these feathers last for about 6 to 8 weeks, but if proper care's taken, they can last much longer.
Aren't these faux feathers a cool and guilt free way to stay ahead of the fashion fad?
